A new study by the University of Oxford, together with UCL and supported by the Faraday Insititute, called ‘Up in smoke: considerations for lithium-ion batteries in disposable e-cigarettes’ published in Joule has demonstrated that the use of e-cigarettes or vapes has skyrocketed since 2021 with an 18-fold increase. They estimate that this is leading to an average of 1.3m disposable used vapes being thrown away in the UK every week. Whilst this may lead to Government announcements of intentions to outlaw disposable vapes, there is still a problem now, and there will continue to be an environmental issue with ‘non-disposable vapes’. 

The short answer is that whilst not every part of a used vape can recycled, some of the parts certainly can be and we would argue, should be.
